So what exactly is an Italian Pilsner?
Well if a nice light lager married some sweet hops to create a complex yet balanced brew with more depth and less bitterness, you would arrive in it’s territory. Italian Pilsners are German Style Pilsners that have been dry hopped with European variety hops for maximum aromatics. Unlike other lager styles, this particular beer is less about malt and more about the hops. Eraclea Pilsner malt is made from Eraclea barley grown near the Adriatic Sea northeast of Venice embodies a noticeable malty-sweet aroma with hints of honey. Eraclea Pilsner Malt forms a perfect stable foam, and Perle, Saaz and Tettnanger hops bring out traditional floral notes. Dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin Hops in the conditioning tank, this New Zealand variety grants a distinct white wine fruitiness with flavors of gooseberry and grape.
From all this masterful craft, Permesso is born; a light, clean, and refreshingly flavorful pilsner with a slight bitterness and hints of tropical fruits & grapes that play the palate a sweet & refreshing tune.
